Croatia Airlines has reached a remarkable milestone in its fleet modernization journey, becoming the first airline worldwide to operate an Airbus A220-100 configured with 127 seats.
The aircraft, registered 9A-CAO and named Dubrovnik, landed in Zagreb on 30 September 2025, arriving directly from Airbus’ facility in Mirabel, Canada.
This delivery marks the seventh of a total of fifteen new A220 aircraft ordered by Croatia Airlines as part of its full fleet renewal strategy – a transformation that will be completed by 2027. The national carrier’s new fleet will consist of 13 A220-300s (149 seats) and two A220-100s, symbolizing a decisive shift toward fuel-efficient and environmentally sustainable operations.
According to Jasmin Bajić, CEO of Croatia Airlines, the A220-100 “offers the highest seating capacity of its type in the world,” reinforcing the airline’s operational efficiency and passenger comfort. He emphasized that the project, developed in cooperation with Airbus and Air Lease Corporation, represents “the largest strategic investment in the airline’s history.”
The A220 family stands out for its advanced aerodynamics, lower noise footprint, and up to 25% reduced fuel consumption compared to previous-generation aircraft. For Croatia Airlines, the renewal marks not just a technical upgrade, but a strategic repositioning in the competitive regional aviation market. The Dubrovnik-named aircraft symbolizes both national identity and sustainable progress, enhancing connectivity across Europe while aligning with the airline’s broader ESG ambitions.
